Text Adventure Game

A branching story game for my Java course at Green River College. It reads an indexed story file into a String array and follows the player's choices with recursion.

Flashcard Generator API

A Flask API that turns any text into study flashcards. Gemini writes the cards, and a regex rules engine takes over automatically when the API fails or has no key. On the same 20 test texts, 39 of 40 Gemini cards were usable, against 12 of 20 from the rules engine.

  • Six REST endpoints with full CRUD and pagination, backed by PostgreSQL in Docker Compose.
  • Gemini answers in a JSON schema, and every card is checked against the database limits before it's saved.
  • Fixed a partial-save bug by committing each batch in one transaction, so a failure saves nothing instead of part of a batch.
  • Tests mock the Gemini call, so they run offline and cost nothing.

Real-Time Object Detection

A real-time pipeline on an NVIDIA Jetson Orin Nano that finds people and objects in a USB camera feed and logs every detection to SQLite.

  • Benchmarked HOG, MOG2 and YOLOv4-tiny on the board by speed and detection rate, then chose YOLOv4-tiny, run through OpenCV's DNN module.
  • Found a USB 2.0 bandwidth limit holding 720p capture to 10 fps. Switching from YUYV to MJPG reached 30 fps.
  • Profiled the frame loop and batched the SQLite writes, cutting average write time 27x.
  • The capture loop reconnects on its own. I tested it by unplugging the camera mid-run.

About

I'm Harrison, a junior at the University of Washington Bothell studying Computer Science & Software Engineering, graduating June 2028. I want to work in robotics, software development, or site reliability engineering, and I'm looking for a summer 2027 internship.

Before any of this, I built things from kits: an Arduino thermometer, a home NAS, and a small autonomous car that went from driving a rectangle, to memorizing a track, to steering with a camera. These days that curiosity goes into TrickFire Robotics at UW Bothell.
